So... our motto is: Life is short: Love yourself. Challenge yourself. Believe in yourself.
I did one of those earlier this month - I challenged myself. I completed my first gravel race. It's called 24 Hours of Cumming, but it's not as pleasurable as it might sound. I did the 100K loop (62 miles).
I've cycled a lot further on pavement, but gravel is different. The gravel adds extra resistance. So, going up the hills, which are also steeper, is much, much more difficult. It's also different in that you get to see the beautiful countryside of Iowa.
Most of us "city folk" don't get out on the gravel roads much. I grew up on them. So, returning to my bike riding roots is kind of fun - although torturous at times. My heart rate rarely hits 150 on pavement. On gravel, it's every other hill.
During the race, I saw some of my competitors get off their bikes and walk them up the hill. I'm NOT judging. They may have been competing in the 400K race - and I've walked my bike up a hill in far less than that. But I was determined to stay clipped in and climb... and climb.. and climb. I made it - up every hill.
When I got to the finish line, Race Director, Steve Cannon said, "You're doing the 200K right?" I said, "No, just - JUST - the 100K." His expression was priceless as he said, "Well, you WON! You're the first woman!"
My response was basically disbelief. I don't think I've ever won a race in my life. But I'm pretty dang proud of myself - and not for winning. I'm proud I made it to the START! This scared the crap out of me - but I did it
We want YOU to challenge yourself, in some way, TODAY!
