If you've been around me or this page very long you know how much I hate running.
I've forced myself to run three out of the past four days.
Because I'm sick of sucking at it.
I have no grandiose visions of becoming one of the gazelle-like creatures I see bounding down the street every day, but I want to be able run without feeling like my lungs are going to explode and my legs are going to fall off. I also want to be able to run when I need to - like last week when it started raining and hailing when we were at Gray's Lake and Michael Francis was screaming his head off. I felt like a shitty mom because I couldn't get him to the car faster.
I have no idea how far I've lumbered during these outings... I just run-walk-run-walk-run-walk until the boy is out of patience or I'm out of steam. It's the way Sonya Heitshusen always tells people she stated running when she couldn't do more than a few blocks at a time.
One of the great things about this sort of workout is not needing any special gear. I've been wearing an ancient pair of shoes, an equally old hat, and ratty old clothes (we're at the lake).
I would suggest a decent sports bra, because, boobs. I suppose if you're a serious runner a jogging stroller makes sense, but as you can see I'm using a twenty dollar umbrella stroller and we all lived to tell about it.
